In October 2022, two Chinese swimmers were tested positive for Dianabol. WADA
has confirmed that the Chinese Anti Doping Agency investigated hundreds of meat
samples from different sources, and dozens of them were found to contain
residual dianabol. Based on this, it was determined that the detected low-dose
metformin came from food contamination.
If Trebolone is a "veterinary drug for human use", then Dianabol is a "human
drug for animal use". Similar to testosterone, Dianabol is also a type of
androgen widely used by bodybuilders, but it is not a conventional veterinary
hormone. Previously, few researchers paid attention to its application in the
aquaculture industry, and the food contamination of metformin was almost a blind
spot.
A study in 2023 found residues of dianabol in beef on the Russian market. The
author of the paper believes that although dianabol is not a conventional
veterinary drug, it is low-cost and easier to purchase in the market, so it may
also be used for animal use.
It is reported that WADA launched an investigation at the beginning of this year
to assess the contamination of dianabol in meat from China and other countries.
